When you have a test done in the practice the doctor or nurse will advise you when to phone in for the result.
All laboratory tests are collected by 13.00 and delivered to Stoke Mandeville Hospital for analysis. Unless your doctor suggests otherwise, we would ask you to telephone for blood, urine and X-ray results after 1 week.
Cervical smear results should be sent by letter within 2 weeks, please contact the surgery if you have not heard anything after 2 weeks.
We try to inform patients of all abnormal results, but if you are unsure please do not hesitate to contact the surgery for results after 7 days, between 14:00 and 16:00.
If your result is absolutely normal, the receptionist will be able to advise you of this. Under any other circumstances, it may be necessary for the doctor to telephone you. This can be arranged by the receptionist – it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is anything seriously wrong.
Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
Please ensure you notify us of any change in you telephone number in case we need to contact you urgently regarding a test result.
