Test Results
All laboratory tests are collected by 13:00 and delivered to Stoke Mandeville Hospital for analysis. Unless your doctor suggests otherwise, we would ask you to telephone for blood, urine and X-ray results 10 working days.
Cervical smear results should be sent by letter within 2 weeks, please contact the surgery if you have not heard anything after 2 weeks.
We try to inform patients of all abnormal results, but if you are unsure please do not hesitate to contact the surgery for results after 14 days, between 14:00 and 16:00.
If your result is absolutely normal, the receptionist will be able to advise you of this. Under any other circumstances, it may be necessary for the doctor to telephone you. This can be arranged by the receptionist – it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is anything seriously wrong.
Confidentiality
Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

Please ensure you notify us of any change in your telephone number in case we need to contact you urgently regarding a test result.
Blood Tests
Your blood sample will be taken by a phlebotomist who will be a health care assistant or nurse. All blood test samples have to be collected by 13:00 and delivered to Stoke Mandeville Hospital for analysis.
Appointments with a phlebotomist are usually available in the morning on weekdays.
If you have been asked to provide a ‘fasting blood sugar’ test, then you will be offered an early morning appointment as you will not be allowed to eat or drink anything but water 12 hours before the test.
