- ECGs and observations – performing electrocardiograms, taking blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and other baseline observations.

- Conduct physical observations and assessments – recognising signs of deterioration and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Administer medications – including oral medicines, injections, and some controlled drugs, depending on local protocols and training.
- Support patients with personal care – such as washing, dressing, and mobility (when needed, especially in inpatient settings).
- Wound care – cleaning and dressing wounds, pressure ulcer prevention, and basic tissue viability assessments.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures – such as ECGs, blood tests, and specimen collection.

- Take vital signs – including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, and weight.
- Carry out ECGs – performing electrocardiograms and preparing patients appropriately.
- Phlebotomy – taking blood samples.
- Urinalysis and specimen collection – testing urine samples and collecting other specimens for lab analysis.
- Health checks – conducting NHS Health Checks, routine observations, and health screenings.
- New patient checks – assisting with the registration process and gathering baseline health information.
- Wound care support – simple dressing changes under supervision.
Aileen Chekaya
Nurse administrator
Coordinating appointments for patients with long-term conditions, such as diabetes, dementia ensuring timely reviews and follow-up care are in place. The Nurse Administrator works closely with nursing team to manage recall systems and liaise with patients to arrange suitable appointments. Including organising home visits for housebound patients who require long-term condition reviews.
Health visitors
Health visitors are qualified nurses with special training in child health, health promotion and education. They work mainly with children and families.
The health visitors work with the GPs, midwives and other agencies to offer support to families and promote their emotional and physical wellbeing through individual and group contacts.
Macmillan nurses
The MacMillan nurses work closely with GPs, district nursing teams, voluntary agencies and hospices providing specialist advice and support to patients and their families where life-threatening illness has been diagnosed.
The MacMillan nursing team are based within the community and can be contacted on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. Referral can be made via a GP, district nurse or hospital.
